Paro Tshechu Festival 7 Days
Time your trip around the Paro Tshechu, Bhutan's most photogenic festival, including the pre-dawn unveiling of the giant Thongdrel of Guru Rinpoche on the final day.
About this trip
For seven days in late March each year, the courtyard of Rinpung Dzong fills with monks in cham costumes, locals in their finest gho and kira, and pilgrims who travel days to be present. We schedule three festival days plus a Tiger's Nest hike and Punakha visit on either side. The festival's grand finale is the 4 am unveiling of the Thongdrel, a 12-metre embroidered thangka of Guru Rinpoche; merely seeing it is said to cleanse the sins of a lifetime. Dates 2026: approximately March 25 to 29 (lunar calendar; final date confirmed annually). For 2027 and beyond, contact us for exact dates.
